Today Marni and Indra went to church with me. It was really cool because City Light has now moved into its new meeting place--the Haus der Jugend (youth center) just down the street from the house where it met before! This new building is great--very spacious, with lots of rooms! The service is held in a big multipurpose room upstairs with lots of windows, and the kids have a big room downstairs plus lots of space outside where they can run around and play. For now, it looks like it will be an awesome arrangement! There were already a few new people this week, because now that they have more space everybody has been inviting people they know.
The service was really good. Joey finished up the booklet about the foundations of the church (the one I did the drawings for back in March), and the two topics were prayer and evangelism. He was preaching it up! It was awesome. We also had communion at the end.
Really nice day, and it was great walking through the Stadtpark and back to get to and from the service. I thought the park was beautiful when I first saw it all bare and dormant in March, but now . . . WOW. It's absolutely stunning. All the trees have their full summer leaves and the pathways are dark and shady. The summer flowers are blooming all over the place (especially the roses), the plant beds are full and lush, and the grass is nice and thick. All over the lawns, people are having barbecues, lying out tanning, and of course playing soccer (fueled by the current World Cup madness). Swans, ducks, and geese are swimming in the See with their babies, and people are kayaking, canoeing, and paddling around on the water. There are also some people going swimming now! One of these days soon--maybe even this week--I'm gonna take a dip there myself!
Marni left church a bit before Indra and I did, because she had scheduled to Skype her boyfriend back in Australia. Indra and I had a really nice walk back. We took a mini-detour for ice cream on the way home--there is a super affordable place at the end of our street that is 1 euro per scoop. German ice cream is great because not only is it delicious with a big range of dessert-y and fruity flavors, but generally it's really inexpensive. In Paris and London, a single scoop costs at least two or three times as much!
Worked on homework this afternoon and evening. So nice to finally be getting stuff done! I actually decided to cancel my planned trip to Vienna this coming weekend because my mezzotint class schedule changed and I'm really behind on my book illustration project--not to mention that my bank account has dwindled down quite a lot from all those trips I've been taking! I figured it was probably wiser not to do any more big trips, just to be sure I have enough funds left to pay all those important things like rent, student insurance, and groceries. Kind of a bummer that I won't get to see Vienna, but it's okay. I got to spend a whole week in both Paris and in London, so to be honest, I am more than content.
Must go to bed soon. Not enough sleep last night . . . though it was worth it to Skype with my whole family! :)
