Well, here are Marni and I in Kraków! The hostel has free wifi so I'm doing a very quick post.
Our trip here was VERY long--12 hours! Turns out our DB BahnCard trip we booked was actually a bus, not a train, so we spent a lot of travel time. My throat is sore . . . Must have caught a cold from all those people at Mexican Night! Oh well, I took some vitamin C and bought some chewy candies to suck on, and some extra gum too, so I'll just keep those on hand and drink lots of water. Actually, it's amazing! This is the first time I've gotten sick at all since I got here, which is pretty much miraculous considering how many places I've gone and people I've interacted with!
Our hostel is called the Mosquito Hostel, which sounds sketchy but is actually really great. We booked it because it had good reviews. They have free breakfast and dinner, roomy and decently clean showers, really big lockers that actually fit all your stuff, and bus trips to and from Auschwitz and the Salt Mine directly from the front door. The receptionist also gave us a quick overview of the city map and told us about all the available free walking tours and the best places to visit and eat. On her recommendation, we had dinner at the 24-hours-a-day pierogi place down the street. I tried the mixed plate with three different traditional fillings: witch meat (no idea what kind of meat that is, but it was delicious), cabbage & mushroom, and cottage cheese & potato. It was so yummy!
We decided to wait till Sunday to do Auschwitz. Tomorrow we're thinking we will do walking tours of the Old Town and Jewish Quarter. Kraków is super old and small enough to walk around in, so we're both looking forward to doing lots of exploring!
